Lake Geneva Schools Families & Staff,

Welcome back for the 2021-2022 school year. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed your summer and are excited to face the challenges and rewards awaiting during the upcoming school year. We are excited to have our students return and pledge to do our best to make the 2021-2022 school year an extremely positive experience.

As our country, state, and local community make progress in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, we understand the social-emotional health of our students is stronger when they can attend school in an environment with the least restrictive mitigation strategies possible. With that, the Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union (Badger) High School School District and the Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District will begin the 2021-2022 school year with full-time, in-person, five days a week instruction with masks (face coverings) optional. Please know, if health issues arise in the community or our schools, health protocols may have to be reinstated.

Masks were made "optional" on June 6, 2021, and that will remain the case as we begin the school year. That action was taken and will continue to be our practice as a result of the following:

  • Overwhelming community support of optional face coverings;

  • Low rate of student infection in the Lake Geneva Schools;

  • Little evidence of student-to-student spread of the virus in the Lake Geneva Schools;

  • Success of other neighboring school districts in easing face covering requirements; and

  • Mask optional summer school (450 elementary students and 150 high school students) held for four weeks with no cases of COVID-19.

If in-person, mask optional school is a concern for you and your family, Lake Geneva Schools is offering an offsite option to our students and their families (4K-12) through our two charter schools. Maple Park Charter School is for 4K-8th grade students and New Visions Charter School is available for our high school students who desire an offsite option. If potentially interested in one of these offerings, parents should contact Ms. Chiper Tennessen (Maple Park Charter School, grades 4K-8th) at 262-348-7090 or Ms. Jennifer Straus (New Visions Charter School grades 9-12) at 262-348-2050.

Within our buildings, we will have the following health and safety protocols in place as we begin the school year:

  • All students and staff will be asked to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. If they are feeling sick, they should stay home from school. If they are experiencing symptoms of the virus, they should consult a healthcare professional right away and notify the school.

  • We encourage all eligible students, teachers, and staff to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect themselves and others in the school and community.

  • Voluntary COVID testing of students and staff who have symptoms will be available.

  • Students and staff will be frequently reminded about the importance of proper handwashing. We will place hand sanitizer units throughout our buildings.

  • Social distancing strategies will be implemented based on feasibility and the unique space and needs of a classroom or other location. Not all strategies will be feasible for all schools.

  • Custodians will continue to thoroughly clean all buildings after each school day.

  • Ventilation systems have been vastly improved with state of the art equipment.

  • Ionization of classrooms takes place on a regularly scheduled basis.

Although Lake Geneva Schools will not require students to be vaccinated to attend school, it is important to note that the Pfizer vaccine is now approved for people 12 and older. Vaccinations are a key component to preventing the spread of COVID-19. We encourage all staff and eligible students to get vaccinated to help in our mitigation efforts.

For specific details regarding our COVID-19 procedures, including our quarantining procedures, please review the details outlined in the Lake Geneva Schools Health Plan. Please click here to review our Lake Geneva Schools Health Plan for the 2021-2022 School Year. The educational programs offered and the health modifications made and presented in this document have to be viewed with an eye toward flexibility. Health conditions as well as directives from local, state and federal authorities may make plans made today obsolete tomorrow.

As always, thank you for your support as we work to make the 2021-2022 school year the best possible for the students and families of our community. We will continue to strive to provide the best education possible to our students. Have a great school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. James Gottinger

District Administrator
